Creating pellets from powdered material requires the use of a pellet mill, sometimes referred to as a pellet press[1]. In contrast to grinding mills, which split big materials into tiny pieces, pellet mills combine small elements into a larger, homogenous mass.
types
Pellet mills come in a wide variety of varieties, which may be broadly divided into large-scale and small-scale variants. Pellet mill may also be split into flat die pellet mills and ring dies pellet mills based on their output capacity.
Large-scale pellet factories
Large-scale pellet mills typically come in two different shapes: flat die mills and ring die mills. A flat die with slots is used in flat die mills. A roller forces the powder through the die’s perforations as the die spins after the powder is supplied to its top. The exposed pellet is cut away from the die by a cutter on the opposite side of the die.
The ring die has radial slots throughout the length of the die. Spreaders uniformly disperse the powder once it has been fed into the die. The powder is then forced through the die holes by two rollers. The pellets are cut away from the die’s exterior using two cutters.
Animal feed, wood pellets, and fuel pellets for a pellet burner are often made in large-scale pellet mills.
Small-scale pellet factories
Small-scale mills are often modifications of hydraulic or screw presses. The fundamental procedure is the same for both types. The uncompressed powder is kept in a formed pocket by a die, often referred to as a mould. The ultimate pellet form was determined by the pocket shape. In a screw press or hydraulic press, the screw or ram that compresses the powder has a platen connected to its end. [3] Some platens are heated to shorten the processing time and enhance the pellet’s general structure. Additionally, they could feature water outlets for rapid cooling in between applications.
